Dopamine Décor – What Does It Mean And How Do You Implement It?

White, Beige and Greys have been -on trend- since…well what seems like forever. But don’t worry if you’ve recently had your bathroom or kitchen newly renovated with a neutral palette, you can still inject dopamine into your rooms without having to redo them. Like we always say, trends are here to inspire, and you should only take them as far as you’re personally willing to go and as far as you need to create that uplifting and vibrant environment in your home. After all, your home is where you spend most of your time, it’s your own happy place and it’s where you recharge your batteries.

Dopamine Decor in the Kitchen

Dopamine is all about bright colours, patterns, prints, shapes, and lights. Some may clash and others may compliment. Again, only look to bring in ones that personally capture your attention in a positive way, are emotionally uplifting and create a vibrancy you love.

Influencers on social media ‘tell’ us what the current trend is, but these ideas should be a guide only and are super useful as just that. A bathroom or kitchen designer is great to help you with this. Take the ideas you like and shape them into what’s right for you and your home. After all, you live there! Dopamine is one of the most wonderful trends for you to dip in and out of for that very reason. By creating a vibrant and joyful space tailored by you -to suit you- will create your own joyful space. Dopamine is not only about making you feel good, as we all know the home environment can affect mental wellbeing, but it also expresses your own individuality and personality!

Dopamine Decor in the Bathroom

So where do you start? Well, a simple way is by injecting colour into your room by painting the walls a joyful colour, or how about a bold patterned wallpaper. Go with what feels good for you. If you don’t want to feel overwhelmed, one statement wall is a great alternative. This can also be achieved with bold tiles and/or tiling patterns. Another simple way is to find bright and bold photo or art prints that appeal to you or make you smile.

If you’re in the process of having a new kitchen/utility or bathroom/cloakroom designed and installed, you have a blank canvass to fill and can look at bold bathroom furniture or kitchen cabinets.

Here’s some other ideas to consider:

A colourful backsplash, fun and playful wall art, funky rugs or mats, a neon sign or quirky statement lamps, colourful mismatching stools or chairs, hanging plants and colourful potted planters, quirky dishtowels, and bath towels.

Be inspired by things you love!

And In Slightly More Detail, Here Is An Overview Of The Recommended Care & Maintenance Guidelines For Bathrooms And Kitchens

  • DO NOT use abrasive or harsh cleaning products on any surfaces (NEVER use steel wool, scouring pads, cleaning wipes or cleaning products which contain bleach, vinegar, acid, essential oils, alkali or abrasives)
  • Clean glass, metal trims, brassware, mirrors and sanitary ware (including toilet seats) regularly with HOT WATER OR MILD SOAPY WATER ONLY (a mild hand soap is ideal). For brassware in particular, plain clean hot water is all that is needed for routine cleaning
  • Remove any residual water or condensation from surfaces after every use (applies to glass, metal, worktops, shower trays, mirrors, cabinet tops etc.)
  • Wipe all surfaces down with a non-abrasive soft cloth after every use. A microfibre cloth is ideal
  • Do not allow limescale to build up. This is particularly important in hard water areas
  • Metal surfaces and mirrors are vulnerable to chemicals. Harsh household cleaners, denture cleaners and hair dyes may cause damage to these surfaces and should not be used. Use of hairspray and aerosols on or near metal surfaces and mirrors should also be avoided.
  • Keep the room well ventilated
  • Take great care if you do choose to use harsh / strong cleaning fluids in your toilet bowl to avoid splashing the cleaner onto the toilet seat
  • Avoid use of essential oils.

This is not an exhaustive list. Please refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for each individual product.

Happy Cleaning!
